Regional Artist, Annemaree Dalziel, exhibits in Australian Design Centre Object Space

Congratulations to regional artist Annemaree Dalziel, who is currently exhibiting her work Imperial Stockings in the Object Space at the Australian Design Centre (ADC).

Annemaree is an artist, activist, performance-maker and writer, living and working on Gundungurra/Tharawal country in Mittagong. Her costumes, sensory installations and minimal sets investigate power, connection to place and people, and the visibility and concerns of marginalised and displaced communities.

“In the Highland Clearances (roughly 1760-1850), the politics of power, racism, commerce and greed displaced remote Highland and Island Scotland people. Uprooted from soil they believed they belonged to, their indigenous Gaelic-speaking culture dismembered, thousands of ordinary Gaelic Scots carried cultural grief to colonial Australia. Too busy surviving to mourn, and complicit in the colonial theft of First People’s Country, they wove new nets of displacement, loss and grief. Imperial Stockings is my response to this forgotten story of origin, submerged in Australia’s historic amnesia. The Imperial Stockings record how human bodies relate to place, to one another and to the flows of change central to being human; how we live history, and the perils of forgetting its lessons.”

This exhibition is a result of an ongoing partnership between RANSW and ADC, which aims to give regional artists and designers visibility in a nationally recognised gallery space. In 2025, selected artists from the region have been invited to exhibit their work in Sydney in ADC’s Object Space Window Gallery on William Street.

Our CEO Tracey Callinan sees the goal of this partnership as not only benefitting regional artists, but also in increasing ADC’s profile and strengthening the overall arts ecosystem in NSW.

“I would hope that the work of regional artists is seen and that the ability of these artists is recognised, that people seeing the ADC windows get a sense that creativity sits in places right across Australia, not just in the major cities. I hope too that the process raises awareness for artists in the regions of ADC’s work and the profiling of amazing design work.”

Imperial Stockings is on display now until 28 February 2026.
