Create NSW is calling for applications for the Beyond the Studio: Early to Mid-Career
Dance Fellowship with Sydney Dance Company, Conductor: NSW Orchestral (Early
Career) Fellowship with Sydney Youth Orchestras, and the NSW First Nations Creative
Fellowship with the State Library of NSW, as they again partner with prestigious arts and
cultural organisations to support the career advancement of local artists.

Interim Chief Executive of Create NSW Annette Pitman said the Fellowships underline the
NSW Government’s commitment to creating opportunities to grow the skills of NSW artists
and musicians.

“Create NSW will again partner with leading arts and cultural organisations to deliver a suite
of professional development opportunities to support NSW artists, practitioners and arts and
cultural workers through the Creative Leadership program,” Ms Pitman said.

“Following the inaugural NSW First Nations Creative Fellowship that Dr Bronwyn Bancroft
used toward the creation of a new cultural work at the State Library of New South Wales, I
encourage applications from First Nations practitioners for the program’s second year.

“It is exciting that Create NSW will once more join forces with Sydney Dance Company for
Beyond the Studio and Sydney Youth Orchestra for Conductor, to deliver these important
Fellowships that will facilitate the personal, creative and career advancement of our local
artists and musicians.”

The Beyond the Studio Fellowship will provide a choreographer, dancer, producer,
composer, or designer with $30,000 financial support from Create NSW as they pursue
intense periods of engagement with the Sydney Dance Company artistic team.

The Conductor (Early Career) Fellowship will deliver one early career orchestra conductor
$20,000 in financial support from Create NSW, along with $10,000 in-kind support in the
form of mentoring and professional development with the Sydney Youth Orchestras, as they
undertake a 12 month (part-time) self-directed professional development program to support
their personal, creative and career advancement.

The NSW First Nations Creative Fellowship will offer a First Nations artist the opportunity
to undertake a research project delving into the subjects and materials of the State Library
of NSW’s collection. The Fellowship includes $30,000 in financial support from Create
NSW and research support from the State Library of NSW.

Applications for the three fellowships close 5pm Friday 11 March 2022.
