ABORIGINAL ARTS & CULTURE

Aboriginal Population and Language Groups

  • Just over 3,000 Aboriginal people live in the region (approximately 3.3% of the general area population)
  • Highest concentration of Aboriginal people live in Muswellbrook Shire (twice the national average at 4%)
  • Muswellbrook is home to the Wanaruah Local Aboriginal Land Council and the Hunter Valley Aboriginal Corporation
  • Traditionally the lands of the Upper Hunter were where the Kamilaroi, Wanaruah and Wiradjuri people’s lands met. Today the area is predominately Wanaruah.

ARTS UPPER HUNTER ANNOUNCES EIGHT LOCAL ORGANISATIONS SHARE IN $23,385 TO FUND ART PROJECTS

Through their Country Arts Support Program (CASP), South East Arts has announced $34,000 in funding to artists and arts organisations in the south east. The funding will support 16 individual artists with $1,000 Creative and Professional Development grants and seven arts organisations with up to $3,000 for Small Projects in the Bega Valley, Eurobodalla and Snowy Monaro.
