Background

Regional Arts NSW (RANSW) is the peak body for regional arts development in NSW. The Communications Officer will work closely with the CEO to address the key areas of the RANSW Strategic Plan:

  • Goal One: ADVOCATE: Promote and champion the regional arts and cultural sector in NSW
  • Goal Two: SUPPORT: Support and strengthen the arts and cultural sector in regional NSW
  • Goal Three: LEAD: Lead the sector and drive investment in arts and culture through best practice operations at RANSW

The RANSW Communications Strategy aims to do three main things:

  1. Let people know that we are active and achieving outcomes for regional NSW
  2. Position us in the sector as the peak body for regional arts in NSW
  3. Link us effectively to our partners and stakeholders

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Communications Officer, able to advance these goals.

The Position:

The Communications Officer position is 0.4FTE (2 days a week). The role temporarily includes an additional day per week until early 2025 to manage the communications for another program in regional NSW. The time can be taken as three full days, or the hours can be spread over four or five days.

The Communications Officer will be part of a small team based at our office in the Arts Exchange in the Rocks, Sydney. While some flexibility is possible, we would like the Communications Officer to spend most of their time working in our office.

The full-time equivalent payment for the role commences at $66,000. The initial load of three days a week would mean a salary of $39,600, with superannuation paid additional to this.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the organisation’s development, implementation and monitoring of RANSW’s communications strategy that supports RANSW’s Strategic Plan.
  2. Assist the CEO with the development, production and distribution of all written, visual, and audio material to ensure a high standard of content and a consistent quality of presentation for RANSW.
  1. Manage the maintenance of the RANSW website and Horizons website, ensuring all information is current, develop content for the sites and monitor traffic to ensure that each site continues to maintain its leading position as the primary information source for regional arts activities, programs and projects.
  2. Research, develop and distribute of monthly EDMs using the established design templates.
  3. Work with the CEO to ensure that all Communications and Marketing policies are current and ensure that the organisation complies with these policies.
  1. Create/coordinate the development of multimedia content (filming, video editing, visual storytelling, social media) for distribution across multiple platforms.
  2. Assist the CEO with the revision of internal documents and oversee maintenance of the brand on all communications.
  3. Draft and disseminate media releases when required. 
  4. Provide event and administrative support for all RANSW activities throughout the year including Board meetings and functions,
  5. Provide on-going support to the Communications Officers within the Regional Arts Network including coordination of meetings, fielding enquiries and providing advice and assistance to regional arts organisations.
  6. Work closely with the Programs and Grants Managers and/or external contractors to ensure the best outcomes for the organisation.
  7. Liaise with regional artists and arts organisations to support work in regional NSW.
  1. Support the delivery of the RANSW program through administration support.
  2. Ensure an awareness of new approaches in Communications and assess the suitability of introducing new techniques.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated high quality writing and editing skills, including experience writing articles, media releases and reports addressing a variety of audiences.
  • High level of computer literacy and content management including experience with programs in design, databases, WordPress, online booking systems and content production as well as using Microsoft Office and managing social media platforms.
  • An ability to research and edit information with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated high level customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to build cooperative relationships with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated interest in, or understanding of, the regional arts sector and/or community arts and cultural development in a regional context.
  • Ability to support event delivery and organisational administration.
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and flexibly in a small team.
