Congratulations to regional artist April Phillips, who is currently exhibiting her work Drop Let in the Object Space at the Australian Design Centre (ADC).

April is a Wiradjuri-Scottish woman of the galari/kalari peoples, based in the far south coast region of NSW on the Yuin Nation.

“Drop Let celebrates the infinite possibilities within a single drop, an impermanent compound of fluidity and clarity. April Phillips has used the emoji-like droplet across her practice as a recurring motif, synonymous with sadness, yet smile-inducing as a light hearted symbol of optimism. The iconic shape puts a freeze frame on time, liquid suspended to represent a fallen tear, rain from the sky, a bead of sweat, heightened climax and nourishing hydration” (read more).

Drop Let is on display now and will close on 16 August.

Our partnership with ADC

This exhibition is a result of an ongoing partnership between RANSW and ADC, which aims to give regional artists and designers visibility in a nationally recognised gallery space. In 2025, selected artists from the region have been invited to exhibit their work in Sydney in ADC’s Object Space Window Gallery on William Street.

Thank you also to South East Arts, who also supported April to make this happen.

Our CEO Tracey Callinan sees the goal of this partnership as not only benefitting regional artists, but also in increasing ADC’s profile and strengthening the overall arts ecosystem in NSW.

“I would hope that the work of regional artists is seen and that the ability of these artists is recognised, that people seeing the ADC windows get a sense that creativity sits in places right across Australia, not just in the major cities. I hope too that the process raises awareness for artists in the regions of ADC’s work and the profiling of amazing design work.”

Our partnership with ADC is important to us, because we believe they do essential work as a nationally respected institution that provides NSW designers with irreplaceable development and support opportunities. ADC is in trouble, having lost funding from our state government in their recent 4-year Arts & Cultural funding round. We stand with ADC because without them, NSW will not have the government-funded, dedicated craft and design space that other states enjoy.
