SHINE 2022

11 April - 31 May

The Shine Festival 2022 shines a light on the special and unique heritage of the region, as part of the Australian Heritage Festival that runs through April and May. In 2022 Shine Festival showcases a number of features:

Heritage Uncovered
From Aboriginal fish traps to gold mines and underground bunkers, Heritage Uncovered encourages us to take a deeper look at where we find stories from the past. For the first time, we bring together seven attractions and activities that will give you a very different perspective of our history.

Breaking News
Every week through April and May we will break new stories to give further insight into not only what is happening with our museums but how history and heritage can be reimagined. Find out about major developments and dollar spends occurring at our museums such as Coffs Harbour’s new Yarrila Arts & Museum, The Slim Dusty Centre, Port Macquarie Museum and the National Cartoon Gallery. There will be stories on a historic Spiegeltent coming to the region, a production reimagining a famous piece of music 100 years later as an innovative piece of theatre, a digital artist giving new life to significant heritage publication, the coming to life of a heritage community building with a classical concert and a contemporary artists interpretation of some iconic museum objects.

Cultural Trails
You can discover so many of our region’s cultural and heritage experiences through the many cultural trails we have put together. During SHINE we feature six of these that have a focus on history and heritage. These are perfect to explore over the school and Easter holidays.
