Circus Monoxide is seeking a new Executive Director to lead the organisation through its exciting next phase of growth and opportunity as it strives to become the peak contemporary circus arts organisation in NSW.

With a 25 year history, Circus Monoxide is an established arts company focused on becoming the peak contemporary circus arts organisation in NSW. In 2020 the appointment of Artistic Director, Zebastian Hunter, saw a move back to Circus Monoxide’s professional roots and the securing of significant funding for a variety of innovative productions.  In the face of COVID 19, we have thrived with the realisation of our production ‘THE CONSTRUCT’ (programmed in the 2022 Sydney Festival), launched into pre-production of our family Spiegeltent show ‘Mechanical Mayhem’, and have received an early development commission by Arts Centre Melbourne for an innovative production based on a local historical event with international consequences.

Selection Criteria:

Reporting to the Management Committee, the ideal candidate will have experience in running a business, a not-for-profit or a performing arts organisation, and have excellent communication skills. They must also be keen to get their hands dirty, work closely and collaboratively with the entire team and have a real love for coaching and teaching people to develop Circus Monoxide’s next generation. They will be able to demonstrate strong leadership experience, and be keen to nurture the culture through authentic leadership skills ensuring the whole organisation works together as one cohesive team.

The successful candidate will be able to show a strong commitment to ensuring and leading child safety.

In addition, they will thrive on working creatively to design systems, processes and structures for the smooth running of the organisation, and will be organised and driven, ready to take on the challenge to shape the organisation to reach its potential.

The candidate will ideally have at least 5 years of producing experience within the performing arts and strong skills in managing risk, along with financial management experience including project budgets, organisational budgets and Xero.

The candidate will also ideally have experience in working with not-for-profit Boards or Management Committees, with an understanding of governance requirements.

As a child safe organisation, Circus Monoxide is guided by its position that keeping young people safe is the most important thing we do. In light of this, and that many in our student population are not yet able to be vaccinated, being double vaccinated against COVID-19 is a condition of employment in this role.

A current Working With Children check is also a condition of employment.

The salary is $80,000 per annum plus superannuation. Located in the beautiful northern Illawarra, this is a rare opportunity for a leadership role within the burgeoning Wollongong arts scene and is a position that will allow the ideal candidate to truly leave a mark and build a strong future for the organisation, and develop a centre for circus in NSW.
