Five new Quicks support regional artists

Regional Arts NSW is delighted to announce five new projects funded in the January to March 2008 quarter of the Quick Response grant program. All grants in this quarter were for professional development opportunities interstate and overseas, once again illustrating the tremendous value of this small grant program to professional artists working in regional communities.

The Quick Response Grants program provides assistance for regional NSW artists, arts organisations and communities to take advantage of professional and project development opportunities that present themselves at short notice. The funds are provided through the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund which is administered by Regional Arts NSW in New South Wales.

‘Quicks’ grants for the January to March quarter are:

$850 to Kara Smith for Springboard: entrepreneurship for designers, for this emerging designer to accept selection into a national mentoring program in Sydney.

$1,033 to Bathurst Theatre Company for Bathurst Women's Circus for attendance by facilitator Katherine Cameron at the ACAPTA Conference in Adelaide from the 1st - 4th March 2008, and to take part in master classes, panel discussions and build networks for the emerging women's circus.

$1,500 to Robyn Sweaney for From here to there and places in between, assisting with costs associated with the Hill End Artist in Residence program. The artist will develop her work, conduct community talks and school workshops and develop valuable skills for community-based work.

$1,500 to Gabrielle Gamble for participation in an International Carving symposium in the USA and Canada. The artist will attend and represent Australia at a week long carving event and, along with 5 other artists, be mentored by Canadian sculptor Robbin Wensoski.

$1,500 to Jessica Le Clerc to attend the Acer Arena art exhibition as guest artist at the 'Colour Conference' in Sydney and work with arena staff to develop skills in curating a world class art exhibition, including lighting and hanging, transporting artworks and OHS considerations.
