REGIONAL ARTS NSW HAS PRODUCED
a new compendium of quotes, statistics and facts about the arts for arts advocates and lobbyists in regional New South Wales.

The document includes information from existing studies of the social and economic value of the arts from around the world; information about levels of participation in the arts in Australia and some funding statistics for arts activity in regional New South Wales.

Quotes, Stats & Facts - which was put together by Bryoni Tresize, a postgraduate student at the University of NSW, with the assistance of the Regional Arts NSW Communications Manager, Rachael Vincent - will be of use to anyone who wants to mount an argument for the importance of the arts in regional NSW.

Research across the arts and cultural sector increasingly demonstrates that the arts are both socially and economically important but sometimes it can be hard to find the right information to make the case.

Collectively, the information in Quotes, Stats & Facts may be used to show how increased investment in the arts, specifically in regional areas, can impact the viability and sustainability of those areas in significant ways.

Taken as a whole, the research creates an argument for how communities faced with the economic, industrial and populations problems endemic to regional areas can strategically develop the arts to manage and sustain livelihood and economies.

Concrete evident that arts and cultural activities stimulate job creation and tourism; attract investment and diversification from traditional agribusiness; and contribute to community wellbeing and cohesiveness is hard to come by. Quotes, Stats & Facts goes some way to filling that gap.
