Quicks grants announced for January to March 2009 quarter

Regional Arts NSW is pleased to announce seven new projects funded in the January to March 2009 quarter of the Quick Response grant program.

Grants approved this quarter extended to projects over five different regional areas and across visual arts, music, textiles and screen arts projects. Once again, ‘Quicks’ offered excellent opportunities for the professional development of artists as well as groups in communities who were able to take advantage of the expertise of renowned artists visiting their area.

The Quick Response Grants program provides assistance for regional NSW artists, arts organisations and communities to take advantage of professional and project development opportunities that present themselves at short notice. The funds are provided through the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund which is administered by Regional Arts NSW in New South Wales.

‘Quicks’ grants approved for the January to March quarter were:

$1,000 Nigel Killalea (Mid North Coast) to assist with a four week Hill End Artist in Residency which will provide invaluable professional development both for the artist’s practice as well as colleagues in the mid north coast area.
$1,500 to Music Ability (Albury / Wodonga) for their music program manager to attend the Music and Wellbeing Symposium in Melbourne. The Symposium focuses on community-based programs and features an internationally acclaimed music therapist which will be invaluable professional development for the manager’s work with disability groups.
$1,320 to the North Coast Performing Arts Association (Mid North Coast) to conduct two intensive choral workshops with visiting master choral conductor George Torbay for senior music students and adult musicians in the region.
$864 to visual artist Debbie Wills (South West) to attend Accessible Arts’ Disability and Awareness Access Training in Sydney to assist in her work with people with disabilities.
$1,500 to the Euraba Paper Aboriginal Corporation (North West) to support one of three Indigenous artists from Euraba Paper attending the 2009 International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists Congress in Burnie, Tasmania, a gathering of approximately 120 world renowned papermakers.
$1,405 to Bega Valley Shire Council (South East) for Beanie Making Workshops with Beanie Festival tutor and artist Gay Epstein. Workshops will be offered to the Wallaga Aboriginal community and beanies will form the core of an exhibition in recognition of the International Year of Natural Fibres.
$1,500 to regional filmmaker Simon Portus (Mid North Coast) to assist with costs associated with attending the European Film Market and the Berlin Film Festival for which Simon’s film ‘Tomorrow’ has been accepted.
