The Henry Lawson Festival of Arts | Art Competition 2017

The 2017 Henry Lawson Festival of the Arts Competition is now open for entries. Categories include Traditional ($1500, acquisitive), Watercolour ($1000), Contemporary ($1000), Pastels ($1000), Miniature Painting ($500), Local Artist ($400 1st Prize, $100 2nd Prize), Drawing ($200) and People's Choice ($100). Central West Library | Banjo Paterson Writing Awards

Enter the Banjo Paterson Writing Awards to be in the running for some great cash prizes. The are four categories – Short Story with a $1,000 first prize, Open Poetry with a $1,000 first prize, Bush Poetry with a $500 first prize and the ABC Central West Radio Children’s Writing Awards, with a first prize of $200. Brisbane Institute of Art | The Milburn Art Prize

The annual exhibition is open to all artists from SE Queensland and Northern NSW with a prize awarded for a 2D work including painting, drawing, printmaking and photography This is an important community exhibition designed to encourage participation and competition between both professional and amateur artists. The Milburn Art Prize will discover new and exciting artistic talent, whilst also showcasing outstanding works by established artists. Read more

Cowra Regional Art Gallery | 2017 Calleen Art Award

The Calleen Art Award encourages originality, creativity and artistic excellence. The Calleen Art Award is an acquisitive national painting prize in any subject and style established in 1977 by Patricia Fagan OAM. The winner of the 2017 Calleen Art Award will receive $20,000 in prize money made possible by the generous support of the Calleen Trust and the winning work will become part of the Calleen Collection at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery. Bega Valley Regional Gallery | The Shirl National Youth Portrait Prize 2017

Applications are now open for The Shirl National Youth Portrait Prize 2017. The Shirl is a $10,000 acquisitive biannual portrait prize for artists between the ages 16 – 25. There is no other Portrait prize specifically for young and emerging Australian artists. The Shirl is the little sister to the Bega Valley Regional Gallery's $50,000 Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award. Read more

Australian National University | Call for Papers: Women in the Creative Arts Conference

The School of Music at the Australian National University, is pleased to announce a call for papers and submissions for an innovative research conference on “Women in the Creative Arts” to be held at the school from 10-12 August, 2017. Papers and proposals are invited from scholars and industry practitioners from the creative arts. The topical focus for this conference is the creative work of artists who identify as women. New England Regional Art Museum | Second Myall Creek Lecture Booked Out

The response to the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) lecture this Saturday by leading barrister and author Mark Tedeschi QC about the Myall Creek Massacre was reportedly so positive that Mark agreed to present a second lecture on Sunday morning after the first lecture booked out.
