The Max Afford Playwrights’ Award

The Max Afford Playwrights’ Award was created; ‘To promote interest in Australian drama and to encourage the writing of plays in Australia, to help and give incentive to young writers of plays’.
 
Malcolm ‘Max’ Afford was an Australian playwright and novelist. This award has been established in his honour, for a young playwright to further their education in the field of drama and to improve the general public appreciation of Australian drama and playwrights. Offered by Perpetual and administered by Playwriting Australia, the award included a $15,000 cash prize and a creative development with director, dramaturg and cast of actors for the chosen play.
