The LitLink Residential Fellowship

Varuna the National Writers House

A LitLink Residential Fellowship offers writers and illustrators of fiction and narrative non-fiction living in regional NSW and Sydney Surrounds a two-week creative residency at Varuna the National Writers House in the beautiful Blue Mountains, NSW.

The Fellowship includes full board and accommodation at Varuna including a prepared evening meal, uninterrupted time to write in your own private studio, the companionship of your fellow writers and the opportunity to receive feedback on your work from a Varuna Consultant. Varuna awards five Litlink Fellowships to writers living in regional NSW each year.

To be eligible for a LitLink Residential Fellowship you will need to live in regional New South Wales or Sydney Surrounds* and have written a work of poetry, drama, fiction or narrative non-fiction. Your work should also be at an advanced stage.

Varuna considers all poetry, drama, literary, and genre-based work for the Fellowships. This includes young adult and junior fiction, travel writing, theatre and film scripts and family memoir. In making their selection the Selectors are looking for new work that is original, actively engages the reader/intended audience and that has a distinctive voice and a well-developed sense of direction.

Affirm Press Mentorship Award

Varuna the National Writers House

Affirm Press and Varuna the National Writers’ House are pleased to announce that applications for the Affirm Press Mentorship Award are open online.

Now in its fourth year, this creative partnership offers up to three writers developing exceptional new work the opportunity to work with the Affirm Press publishing team while in residence at Varuna in the Blue Mountains of NSW.

The aim of the Affirm mentorship is to help writers get their manuscript to a publishable standard and, if the process is successful, for Affirm to publish the work. By its very nature a development program like this cannot guarantee publication, but Affirm Press will choose each of the manuscripts because they believe it has the potential to become a work of literary value.

A wonderful aspect of the program is the residency at Varuna, Australia’s pre-eminent institution for the professional development of Australian writers and literature.

The residency week will be held from Monday 29 October until Sunday 4 November 2018 and includes full board and accommodation, including a private room and studio for each writer.

Applications close midnight 31 May 2018.
