NSW Government Exhibitions Scheme

Create NSW

The NSW Government Exhibitions Indemnification Scheme is operated by Create NSW on behalf of the NSW Government. The main purpose of the scheme is to provide a level of indemnity cover for exhibitions in art museums, regional art galleries and other organisations that meet certain standards. Applications to the scheme are currently accepted for exhibitions with a minimum value of A$5 million.

Advanced Development

Create NSW, Screen NSW

Advanced Development contributes towards later stage draft and non-draft costs to complete financing where a strong interest has already been established in the marketplace.
 
We fund the development of:

  • feature films

  • adult and children’s television drama and narrative comedy including series, miniseries, web series and telemovies
  • factual and documentary television or web programs and series
  • animation series
  • creative interactive screen entertainment

 
We do not fund the development of:

  • *infotainment, lifestyle, travel, magazine, sports, education, game shows and other magazine-style productions

  • current affairs and news programs
  • community television
  • shorts, short features (under 60 minutes)
  • projects being developed as part of a course of study

Time Critical Shooting

Time Critical Shooting supports shoots for essential material that must be gathered before a project’s official production schedule.
 
Projects must be intended for production or post-production in NSW.
 
We fund factual and documentary television or web programs and series.
 
We do not fund:

  • feature films

  • adult and children’s television drama and narrative comedy including series, miniseries, web series and telemovies
  • creative interactive screen entertainment
  • *infotainment, lifestyle, travel, magazine, sports, education, game shows and other magazine- style productions
  • current affairs and news programs
  • community television

Festival Travel

Festival Travel supports NSW Key Creatives whose projects have been officially invited to screen at significant international festivals outside Australia. Applications are assessed on a rolling basis throughout the year.
 
The program is open to any project within the range of activity that Create NSW supports which includes animation, documentary, features, shorts, television, children’s television and interactive.

Market Travel

Market Travel supports NSW producers and Key Creatives for travel relevant to financing projects.
 

  • Requests for travel support should generally not exceed $5,000.

  • An individual or a team can submit up to three applications to this program in any financial year, but only one application at a time
  • Generally we will not consider development funding for a project that has a current application to another Screen NSW program

Strategic Opportunities Program

Create NSW, Screen NSW

The Strategic Opportunities Program supports individual initiatives and events that demonstrate long-term benefits to the NSW screen industry.
 
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis at any time during the year, subject to available funds.
 
The objectives of the Program are:

  • to build capacity within the industry and organisations and businesses within the sector;

  • to support new and sustainable partnerships in particular between organisations of State significance and practitioners;
  • to support audience access strategies for projects and practitioners.

 
Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • the project/event is well planned and of high artistic quality and it has capacity to contribute to the overall stability and strength of the NSW screen industry;

  • the plans for the use of the funding and the amount of other funding;
  • track record of the applicant and partners;
  • alignment with the strategic directions as set out in the Screen NSW Strategic Plan;
  • the availability of funds.

Location Scouts and Inbounds Program

Create NSW, Screen NSW

Create NSW provides location and production support to encourage screen projects to film in Sydney and NSW.
 
The objectives of the program include:

  • To market NSW as Australia’s premier screen production destination;

  • To increase the State’s market share of film and television production by attracting potential projects to film in NSW;
  • To familiarise practitioners with NSW locations for their projects;
  • To provide an opportunity to connect local and international practitioners with local technical and creative talent, studio and post-production and visual effects facilities for their projects and to support new and sustainable partnerships between organisations of International significance and local practitioners and facilities.

 
The program offers long-form footloose productions scouting assistance for location surveys for eligible projects and may include covering some of the costs associated with on-ground travel including accommodation, domestic flights, vehicle hire and location manager services. Eligible projects are feature films, tele-movies, mini-series, TV series or reality programs.
 
The program is open to projects prior to commencement of pre-production and prior to or during financing. For international inbound visits, Create NSW generally works with Ausfilm to facilitate a suitable itinerary, however, enquiries can also be made direct to Create NSW Screen Destination Attraction area.

SheDoc

Create NSW, Screen NSW

SheDoc is a Create NSW and Documentary Australia Foundation initiative to support documentary filmmakers who identify as female. The program will provide funding to successful recipients to craft and undertake a bespoke fellowship for her professional development.
 
By offering funding to facilitate opportunities that are self-directed and of benefit, our aim is to positively intervene in and support women’s filmmaking careers.
 
Applications are open to women who are residents of NSW and working in the documentary sector, at any stage of their career and in any key creative role.
 
Our aim is to award up to 3 grants to achieve the following:

  • to encourage new voices;

  • to enable skills to be consolidated or developed;
  • to assist projects to be kickstarted; and
  • to assist in building strategic audience engagement strategies.

 
SheDoc will support travel, research, mentoring, residencies, skills development, seeding new work and the development of impact strategies using documentary.
 
SheDoc is not for production funding.

The Industry Development Program provides funds to organisations that create professional development opportunities for NSW screen practitioners at various stages of their career.
 
Funding is provided for one-off or annual events including seminars, conferences, workshops and professional development activities.
 
Events and programs that support high-quality activity, engagement and participation with these Priority Areas are of particular importance:

  • people living and/or working in regional NSW

  • people living and/or working in Western Sydney
  • Aboriginal people
  • people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds
  • people with disability
  • young people.

 
Please note that Create NSW will not support conferences, panel discussions or similar events which have all male panel members.

Audience Development Program

The Audience Development Program supports public screenings, festivals or tours that provide opportunities for audiences to see and experience quality screen content and innovative practice, and one-off or annual events including those in single or multiple venues.
 
Funding applications to the Audience Development Program for the 2017/18 financial year have closed. Applications for the 2018/2019 will open in May 2018.
 
Events and programs that support high-quality activity, engagement and participation with these Priority Areas are of particular importance:

  • people living and/or working in regional NSW

  • people living and/or working in Western Sydney
  • Aboriginal people
  • people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds
  • people with disability

Who can apply for funding?

Southwest Metro- Public Art EOI

Create NSW

A new opportunity for NSW-based artists to be involved in creating artworks for 10 stations on the T3 Bankstown Line from Marrickville to Bankstown due to be upgraded to metro standards as part of Sydney Metro City & Southwest.

Create NSW in partnership with Sydney Metro will select 10 artists (or artist groups) for 10 separate paid commissions of up to $25,000 each that will be realised as semi-transparent artworks, embedded in glass panels across the upgraded stations.

First Nations artists will be selected to create artworks for two of the 10 stations – Canterbury and Punchbowl.

COVID- 19 Support for the small- medium arts and screen sector

Create NSW

To support independent artists and small to medium arts, screen and cultural organisations impacted by COVID-19, Create NSW is implementing a suite of new initiatives that provide employment and development opportunities, and new audience engagement and skill-sharing for arts, screen and cultural organisations and individuals across the State.

Creative Koori Digital Initiative

Supporting NSW First Nation’s arts and cultural organisations to create, develop and present creative practice and programming online and through virtual means. NSW Aboriginal Arts and Cultural organisations can apply for between $500 – $10,000.   Applications for the Creative Koori Digital Initiative opens from 28 April 2020 and closes at 5pm AEST, 19 May 2020.

Digitise Initiative

Supporting NSW arts and cultural organisations to create, develop and present creative practice and programming online and through virtual means. Organisations can apply for between $500 – $10,000.   Applications for the Digitise Initiative opens from 28 April 2020 and closes at 5pm AEST, 19 May 2020.

Screen NSW Slate Development Fund

NSW production companies and producers can apply for a maximum of $100,000 to develop a slate of three or more projects for TV Drama, Factual, Features and Online.  Applications are now open and will be assessed on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Health and Wellbeing Initiative

Supporting NSW arts and cultural organisations to work with communities and artists to create, develop and present programming that deliver mental health and wellbeing outcomes. Individuals and organisations can apply for between $500 – $10,000.  Applications for the Health and Wellbeing Initiative opens from 28 April 2020 and closes at 5pm AEST, 19 May 2020.

Regenerate Regional Event Initiative

Supporting organisations to commission the development of arts and cultural events featuring local artists with a particular focus on music and performance. It is only open to arts and cultural organisations based in regional NSW. Regional organisations in areas affected by the recent bushfires are encouraged to apply. Regional organisations can apply for up to $10,000.   Applications for the Regenerate Regional Event Initiative opens from 28 April 2020 and closes at 5pm AEST, 19 May 2020.

Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship in partnership with Artspace

The 2020 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) is part of a suite of Create NSW Creative Leadership and Fellowship programs. The objective of this Fellowship, delivered with the curatorial and exhibition support of Artspace, is to support NSW visual arts practitioners in the early stages of their career to challenge, and expand their practice.

The Create NSW Creative Leadership and Fellowship Program supports NSW artists, practitioners, and arts and cultural workers, to undertake professional development programs or significant opportunities to support their personal, creative, and career advancement.

Up to 12 artists will be selected to receive curatorial support and mentorship from Artspace as they develop new works for an exhibition where a final Fellow will be selected to receive $30,000 from Create NSW to progress a self-directed program of professional development.

Applications for the Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship opens from 30 April 2020 and closes at 5pm AEST, 26 May 2020.

Small Projects Grants (Quick Response)

Small Project Grants support the creation, development and presentation of new work and professional development or promotion for NSW-based professional artists and arts and cultural workers.

You can apply for between $500 and $5000 towards your project.

Creative Kids Digital Small Business Grant Program

Create NSW

This program supports small businesses or non-profit organisations that are Creative Kids Providers and directly affected by the COVID-19 emergency. Funding supports Creative Kids Providers to transition their programs and business models from in-person to online and digital delivery.

Providers can apply for up to $5,000 for project expenses, including equipment, to support digital and online skills development and the delivery of online arts and cultural program/s for which Creative Kids vouchers are accepted.

Applications open Wednesday 6 May 2020 and close Friday 6 November 2020 (or before this date if funds are expended). Applications may be submitted at any time during this period. Your activity must commence at least three weeks from the date you submit your application and be completed by 31 December 2020.
