Australia Council for the Arts

Applications are now closed.

Closing date: Tuesday 22 October 2019 at midnight AEDT.

2021 dates to be negotiated with American Academy in Rome

Established in 1894, the American Academy in Rome (AAR) is the oldest American overseas centre for independent study and advanced research in the arts and humanities.

The Australia Council, through the generous support of the Mordant Family, will offer a visual artist the opportunity to undertake a two month residency in Rome through the American Academy’s Affiliated Fellowship Program.

Affiliated Fellows join the AAR community for a period of two months to pursue their work in an inspiring, collaborative and supportive environment. Fellows receive a private single room and studio space in the AAR’s historic building on the Janiculum Hill, access to the library, gardens and other communal spaces and participation in the AAR’s events program.

The Mordant Family/Australia Council Affiliated Fellowship is open to established visual artists with a significant record of exhibitions in public institutions and galleries. Expressions of interest will need to outline your plan of activity whilst in Rome, and how the AAR will further your professional and artistic practice development.
