Wagga Wagga Art Gallery is delighted to present Other Documents, an innovative survey of photographic projects undertaken by second-year students studying in the Bachelor of Creative Arts and Design (Photography) at Charles Sturt University’s Wagga Wagga campus, Port Macquarie Campus, and online.
This broad collection of student work is linked by the central theme of ‘photography as other document’. In order to explore this idea, students have situated their practice within the post-photographic moment, which is broadly defined as the current permutation of photography’s ongoing crisis of meaning.
In the wake of prolific creation, digitisation, dematerialisation and dissemination of images, photographers today are driven to explore the medium’s limits and critique its multiple possibilities. Students have responded by interrogating the role photography plays in layering public and private history; its relationship to truth, memory and identity; and its role in establishing and communicating ideas of place.
Artists participating in Other Documents: Charles Sturt University 2nd Year Photography include: Thomas Brown, Alexandria Heffernan-Power, Sarah Holmes, Hayley Kotzur, Zoe Manuel, Claire Moorhouse, Jordan Parkes, Maisie Peck, and Chelsea Sutton.
Other Documents: Charles Sturt University 2nd Year Photography will be officially launched on Friday 20 October, at 6pm. The exhibition will be open to the public in the E3 art space at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery from Saturday 21 October until Sunday 29 October, 2017.
