Traversing Antarctica | The Australian Experience
Travelling exhibition comes to Wagga Wagga
One hundred years ago Douglas Mawson led the Australasian Antarctic Expedition from Hobart for Antarctica. They landed at Commonwealth Bay on 8 January 1911, beginning Australia’s unique relationship with the frozen continent.
Traversing Antarctica, The Australian Experience is the travelling exhibition by the National Archives of Australia, the Australian Antarctic Division and the Western Australian Museum, that explores the development of this connection. Documentary materials from the National Archives, a rare collection of original equipment, diaries from early expeditions and inspiring imagery reveal this fascinating history.
