The Orange Jazz Club

1st Sunday of every month the Royal Hotel in Orange jumps and jives!

The maroon stripes that detail the façade of the Royal Hotel in Orange, run the length of the building like an incomplete musical stave and coil in a flourish at the corner-breasting bow to form the tops of tremble clefs. Even back in 1857 it seems the architects were pre-empting the future of this establishment which now houses the Orange Jazz Club.

Since 2009 a group of contemporary jazz die-hards have met at the pub rain, hail or shine on the first Sunday of the month, playing cymbals to shimmy the chandeliers (ok…they’re florescent tubes) and rifts to rattle the rafters.

This weekend the Orange Jazz Club presents the Tin Roof Big Band live in concert. Hailing from Wellington, New Zealand, the group plays everything from classic 1940’s swing to modern rock.

The band leader, Eric Smith, says, “We believe that the key to a community band is to play music to the community, making our presence felt – or heard!”

Follow the Orange Jazz Club on Facebook to be kept up to date on their live  jazz monthly jams.
