Sydney Youth Orchestra Philharmonic Regional Tour - Singleton, Gunnedah, Quirindi
SYO Regional Tour
The Sydney Youth Orchestra Philharmonic will start its regional tour in the stunning Sisters’ Chapel, at Sacred Spaces at the Sisters of Mercy Convent this Friday, 13 November at 5.30pm.
A 60 piece orchestra of young musicians will perform works by Elgar, Shostakovich, Mozart, Shaw and the world premiere of Salute St Stanislaus composed by Brian Buggy OAM, paying tribute to the Patron Saint.
Joining the SYO and Mark Walton will be local talented musicians Leonie Mason and Lance Verdon (alto saxophone) and Tim Dunne and Clive Smith (tenor saxophone), along with Newcastle organist Callum Close and Jo Walton (alto saxophone).
The concert will be the first evening performance of the orchestra’s annual regional tour, and will be conducted by the renowned Mr Brian Buggy OAM and will feature guest performer Mr Mark Walton OAM, clarinet.
November 13 marks the feast day of St Stanislaus, known to be the Patron Saint of Youth. Sydney’s best and brightest young musicians will perform that very same evening at Sacred Spaces’ St Stanislaus Chapel.
Tickets are $15 adult, $10 concession & student, and $40 family (2 adults & 2 children) and will be available at the door from 5pm or at www.syo.com.au
During the day, the orchestra will also be performing in the Chapel for both a primary school and a high school concert. Tickets for these concerts have been organised through each school in the Singleton area.
It is believed that this is the first time in decades that students in Singleton have been treated to an orchestral performance especially for schools.
On Saturday the orchestra will be joined by guest performers from Gunnedah Shire Band and the Gunnedah Regional Conservatorium, after a day filled with collaborative orchestral workshops conducted by Brian Buggy OAM.
Then on Sunday the tour travels to Quirindi to perform in The Royal Theatre on Henry Street for the final evening of the orchestra’s journey to the North West Slopes of NSW. Join the orchestra for this grand finale, and delight in a performance appropriate and engaging for all ages. Families are most welcome.
