Orange Regional Conservatorium | Musicians & Singers of all Ages Come Together for Choral Gala

The Orange Regional Conservatorium (ORC) will present its largest choral event of the year, Saturday 25th May. The many choirs of ORC will perform a variety of works before combining
to perform selections from Mendelssohn’s Elijah, supported by the Orange Youth Orchestra, conducted by Ben Macpherson OAM. The concert will bring together musicians and singers from across the region with performers ranging from as young as 4 years old, all the way up to choir members in their 90’s.

The annual Choral Gala is a favourite amongst the Conservatorium community and a great opportunity for the people of Orange and surrounds to watch talented community musicians perform. The featured ensemble will the ORC’s Symphonic Choir, a collection of passionate singers from a variety of backgrounds who join together under the leadership of Ben Macpherson to sing some of the greatest vocal works ever composed.

This year’s performance will feature soloists Samantha Bartholomeusz, William (Bill) Moxey and Sophia Duncan. Samantha is the ORC’s own Head of Vocal Studies, a talented vocalist and tireless educator. Bill is another of the Conservatorium’s voice staff, as well as a performer and expert choir conductor is his own right. Joining these two experienced professionals will be Sophia Duncan, one of the ORC’s standout students who began singing at the age of 4 in the ‘Little Singers’ program and is fast becoming an impressive singer.

This year’s performance will be accompanied by the Orange Youth Orchestra (OYO), a collection of the Orange region’s talented young musicians who have a shared love of classical
music. The OYO’s primary goal is to provide regional students with a chance to experience the wonders of playing in an orchestra while learning challenging and inspiring music. The OYO is
directed and conducted by Ben Macpherson OAM with help from the talented teaching staff of the conservatorium.

At the conclusion of the concert The Rotary Club of Orange North will provide a BBQ (meat kindly supplied M&J Butchery) with funds raised going towards the training of a Guide Dog. Being one of the most popular of our annual events, tickets are selling fast, so don’t miss out!
