One Night Stand in Dubbo

Local band, Peoples Palace, will rock their hometown for triple j

triple j’s annual One Night Stand has been hosted in towns across the country, but in April 2013 it will be Dubbo’s turn.

Not that Dubbo needs any help getting on the map. As Lindsay ‘The Doctor’ McDougall said, ‘Working at triple j we get to see many beautiful and interesting parts of Australia…and now we get to go to Dubbo! Mini golf, Old Dubbo Gaol, a Safari Zoo and now the triple j One Night Stand… Dubbo’s got everything!’

The free concert will be a drug and alcohol-free event. As local Dubbo poet, Mayor Dickerson, said in his exclusive, on-air limerick with triple j presenters a few weeks ago:

“The One Night Stand is in its 10th year
Dubbo is the place it will appear
5 hot Aussie bands will rocking the stands
But stay away if you want drugs or a beer”

Each year, a local act is chosen to open the show and it was pop-punk quartet, Peoples Palace, who caught the beloved radio station’s attention. The triple j team say the song I Want to Know caught their eye, ‘with equal measures of youthful angst and an energetic take on overcharged pop punk, nodding to hallmark born-in-the-90s influences like Fall Out Boy and The Getaway Plan.’

The young musicians, aged between 19 and 22, have won the massive opportunity to share the stage with acclaimed music acts like Flume, The Rubens, Seth Sentry and Ball Park Music and the dream-come-true chance to rock their hometown.

For those of you who will not be able to get there, don’t fret. The ABC concert will come to you:

  • televised live on ABC2 from 7.00pm
  • broadcast live on triple j from 10.00am
  • performances can be viewed on the ABC replay facility iView
  • backstage video and on-stage streaming through the triple j website
