Nyngan RSL Club | A Little Piece of Heaven

A Little Piece of Heaven is the story of Uncle Dick and Aunty Ruth Carney, Wiradjuri Elders and active members of the Narromine community. The couple have led a truly extraordinary life in country New South Wales. In 55 years of marriage, Uncle Dick and Aunty Ruth Carney have experienced loss and triumph, learned and grown together, and built a life that is a testament to their endurance, generosity and love. A Little Piece of Heaven is their first work as playwrights and actors.

From humble beginnings on a campsite near Warren, the story moves through the western shearing sheds and the dances where Dick faces rejection and finds acceptance, to Narromine, where the shearer finds a home, a community, and enduring love.

‘We always dance together. When I’m too fast she pulls me up, when I’m too slow, she goes, “Come on”, but we do it together.’ – Dick Carney

This production has performed in the community of Dubbo and Narromine. Then onto the ‘Yirramboi Festival’ in Melbourne which was hosted by ‘Footscray Community Arts Centre’. With all shows being a roaring success. The final show is not to be missed!
