Join leading Australian typographer and educator Clint Harvey who will be sharing his knowledge of letterpress printing through the use of the F.T. Wimble & Co. wood type Collection at the Museum of Printing, New England Regional Art Museum.
In this practical workshop, participants will gain an overview of the history of handset type and letterpress printing before undertaking a project which calls for both conventional and experimental approaches to the use of this unique printmaking medium. Participants will produce an original letterpress print onto cotton based paper stock using this truly unique Australian collection of letterpress equipment, while under the instruction of Clint Harvey.
Designer, educator, curator and artist Clint Harvey has had a twenty year career in commercial design with a focus upon typography in all of its forms. He was the founder of the Design College Australia (DCA) in Fortitude Valley in Brisbane. While visiting the Hamilton Wood Type Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin (USA). Clint discovered an all consuming passion for the artform of letterpress and is now one of its leading exponents in Australia through his studio – the Bacon Factory in Brisbane. An avid collector of letterpress type, equipment and rare books he recently has focussed his attention upon finding out more about the life and works of F.T. Wimble whose collection is held at the Museum of Printing at NERAM.
