National Emerging Art Glass Prize Award and Exhibition Launch

Wagga Wagga Art Gallery is delighted to announce the return of Australia’s most significant award for new and emerging glass artists, the National Emerging Art Glass Prize. Wagga Wagga Art Gallery welcomes you to the announcement of the 2016 winner of this award, and the launch of the exhibition in the National Art Glass Gallery on Friday 8 April, at 6pm.

This biennial award and associated exhibition, first established in 2010, is now recognised nationally and internationally as one of the premier events in Australian glass. As the home of the National Art Glass Collection, the Gallery is proud of the role that this award plays in promoting glass as one of Australia’s most innovative artforms.

2016 sees a new and exciting evolution for this prestigious award. Formerly restricted to current or immediately graduated students, the National Emerging Art Glass Prize is now also open to practicing glass artists within five years of graduation, creating a broader and more inclusive representation of art glass across the sector.

The National Emerging Art Glass Prize 2016 will be judged by acclaimed glass artists Kathy Elliott and Benjamin Edols, and the winner will be announced by renowned glass artist Robert Wynne. The launch will be followed on Saturday 9 April, at 10am, by a forum with participants in this year’s Prize, and a presentation from the winner of the 2014 National Student Art Glass Prize, Sarah Humphreys. The exhibition will be on display in the National Art Glass Gallery until Sunday 17 July, 2016.
