Narrandera Arts and Community Centre | Fragments

Join West Riverina Arts on Thursday 19th July from 6:30pm at the Narrandera Arts and Community Centre for the official opening of Fragments, curated by Hape Kiddle.
Fragments is the next installment of the Activating Narrandera Arts program initiated by Western Riverina Arts, funded through a Regional Arts Fund grant from the Federal Government, to utilise the Narrandera Arts Centre as a creative space.
Hape Kiddle, a carver and jeweler based at Bidgee Studio, Griffith, has developed the concept for Fragments which includes his own work and the work of several other artists and practitioners from around the region. Each artist has been given a piece of Red Gum and Kiddle has loosely mentored each of them to respond to the material in their own way, applying their own practices, methods, and individuality to produce something original for this exhibition
The artists and practitioners involved range from early-career to established and are from a range of backgrounds, including: contemporary artist and musician Jason Richardson, jeweler Kristy-Lee Agresta, painters Ann Rayment and Janine Murphy, and steelworker Mark Carter to name a few. The idea was for the artists to spontaneously produce an artwork using their various practices, with the commonality of the Red Gum. The exhibition is an opportunity to see how one material can be interpreted and presented in different ways.
An artist talk will be held to close the exhibition on Sunday 29th July from 2pm. This is an opportunity to hear from Curator Hape Kiddle about how he came up with the concept of the exhibition, the importance of the Red Gum, and the contributions of the artists involved.
