Murray Arts | Smart Arts Workshops
Murray Arts and Wodonga Council present Smart Arts, a series of professional development workshops for locally based artists. On Saturday 12th May, Suzanne Derry from Arts Law Centre of Australia will visit Wodonga to deliver two Arts Law Workshops at Arts Space Wodonga, 160 Lawrence St, Wodonga. The workshops are free but registrations are essential.
“Artists are often searching for answers to the many legal issues they face. Through these workshops we are arming our arts community with some skills relevant to their contemporary practice.” – Alyce Fisher, Executive Director, Murray Arts.
Suzanne is also offering artists and organisations the opportunity to book in for a one-on-one advice session. Places are limited so get in touch with Murray Arts to lock in a time. Call 02 6021 5034 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Growing Up: Legal Issues for Expanding Creative Practices | 11am – 1pm
Being an artist often means being a business. In this session, we look at some of the issues involved in engaging other creatives in your growing business (contracting and employing) and your legal responsibilities when doing business in your state or territory. We’ll give you some guidance about business structuring and insurance, where to find the templates you will need and how to get legal and business advice.
Collaborate or Bust: Creating Together | 2:30pm – 4:30pm
Working with other creatives can mean sharing your space, your ideas and your copyright. This workshop explores creating and owning copyright jointly, incorporating a collaborative group, and some of the opportunities and responsibilities when collaborating with other artists. This workshop is for you if you’d like to update your knowledge for a more sustainable arts practice and get a clearer understanding of the legal frameworks behind collaborative processes or projects.
