Murmuration | Days Like These

“Integration Arts” ( noun )
– The creation of artistic work with people with any kind of ability, disability or difference.

Murmuration presents the world premiere of DAYS LIKE THESE, the latest work from NSW’s only professional adult integrated arts company.
Days Like These explores the varied ways we, as humans, express our emotions and invites you to revisit and reflect on the best and worst days of your life. Drawing on the idea that our universal differences also make us the same, a creative team of diverse people will peel back their layers to share their stories of love, frustration, regret, joy and change.
Photographer Rose-Lynn Fisher’s images of the microscopic structures of dried human tears have been a point of inspiration for the work. Fisher describes, “Each one of our tears carries a microcosm of the collective human experience”.
Director, Sarah-Vyne Vassallo “The emotion causing us to cry – laughter, anger or grief – when dried and put under a microscope includes different and distinct molecules. The image of the tear in this way provides a compelling blueprint of the human psyche. Living with a disability is different from one person to the next, and our lived lives are different from one person to the next. We want the work to expand and compress the universal nature of difference; does the fact that we are all different make us all the same?”
Murmuration creates work that not only challenges society’s view of what artists with disability are capable of but also proposes a new artistic aesthetic.
Director, Sarah-Vyne Vassallo says about the project, “We have had two developments of the work over 2015 and 2016 we are thrilled to be taking Days Like These into final development andpresentation. It’s time the world got to see what Murmuration is all about.”
Located at The Arts Centre Cootamundra (TAC) Days Like These will take advantage of the theatre space, gallery, multimedia technologies and studio spaces. The residency is the first of its kind in the arts centre, over the four weeks, the Murmuration Artists will collaborate with TAC Cootamundra to facilitate creative learning workshops and community events, and embed Days Like These into the beautiful venue that is a jewel in this regional Australian town.
To celebrate the artistic residency, Murmuration will be performing the devised work at TAC Cootamundra over three performances, with a Relaxed Performance on the Saturday matinee. Relaxed Performances are designed to create a safe and welcoming environment for a more relaxed presentation of the production. The Relaxed Performance includes small adaptations made to sound and light levels, short breaks in between scenes and an open door policy. Guests will have the chance to meet the performers before the show and partake in a creative sensory experience prior to
the show commencing.
All guests will start their journey through an experiential gallery space where they are invited to feel, smell, taste and connect with the concepts and designs of Days Like These.
