Jasper Knight Touring Exhibition

Australian contemporary artist Jasper Knight has made a formidable contribution to the Australian contemporary arts scene in the last decade. Strongly inspired by the Pop Art tradition, Knight achieved success early in his career as an Archibald and Wynne finalist on numerous occasions, a rare and distinguished honour amongst his contemporaries. The 34 year old runs three contemporary art galleries being Chalk Horse gallery in Sydney (where he works alongside his brother  ABC radio host and founding member of the Chaser group, Dominic Knight) and Gallery Ecosse in Exeter in the Southern Highlands of NSW.

Knight has expressed his passion for giving back to the arts in this country and supported by the NSW Government through Arts NSW, the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery are currently managing a touring exhibition of his work through regional NSW.

Emma Hill, the Education and Public Programs officer at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG), says, “This was a really good opportunity for us to get a body of work from a younger, established contemporary artist.”   The exhibition surveys the last 10 years of the artist’s career including major sculptural works. “Normally, a large survey exhibition like this would come from an older artist but [Knight is] pretty prolific. It’s a pretty big deal to have a survey show at his age.”

It has already featured in Goulburn and Shoalhaven Regional Art Galleries and will continue its tour through Bathurst, Maitland, Hawkesbury and Broken Hill this year.  “His work is bright, colourful and interesting,” adds Hill. “The exhibition hasn’t been hard to sell.”
