'Hearing Children’s Voices’ Drama and Circus Skills Workshops and Performance

The Bathurst Child and Family Network (BCFN) are proud recipients of the 2016 Country Arts Support Program (CASP), an Arts NSW devolved program administered by Regional Arts NSW and local Regional Arts Boards on behalf of the NSW Government. As a result the BCFN will hold free children’s drama workshops, culminating in a performance at the 2016 Bathurst Family Fun Day on Saturday 21 May from 11am – 2pm.

The free workshops will be facilitated by a local drama teacher and circus skills instructor and children must register to participate in the workshops and rehearsals in the lead up to the performance. Children will learn drama and some circus skills and have loads of fun as they develop their own story about the benefits of listening to what children have to say. Children aged 8 – 13 are invited to express their interest by Wednesday 6 April.

The workshops will be free, fun, flexible, and encourage children to develop their own story. Children of various ages between 8 – 13 years, backgrounds, and levels of experience can be involved, including those with no previous experience. The main thing is to have fun! More children can be involved in the performance on the day even if they miss out on the workshops.

Children must express their interest as places are limited. Children wanting to be involved need to be able to attend two one day workshops and four rehearsals as well as the performance.

Workshops: Once accepted, children attend two one day workshops during the second week of April school holidays. See dates and details below:

  • Monday 18 April from 10am – 3pm; and
  • Tuesday 19 April from 10am – 3pm

Rehearsals: Children will also attend four rehearsal sessions each Wednesday after school – see below:

  • Wednesday 27 April from 4pm – 5:30pm; and
  • Wednesday 4 May from 4pm – 5:30pm; and
  • Wednesday 11 May from 4pm – 5:30pm; and
  • Wednesday 18 May from 4pm – 5:30pm

Registration, participation, and involvement are free but places are limited so get in quick to express your interest before you miss out. Expressions of interest close on Wednesday 6 April on the Bathurst Child and Family Network Facebook page.
