The Gunnedah Conservatorium and Gunnedah Shire Council are hosting a unique performance by a subset trio of the quartet Arcadia Winds – with a twist.
The performance will be held at the Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery on Friday, November 10 as part of the trio’s Musica Viva in Schools Tour. The collaboration, dubbed ‘The Gallery After Dark’ will see materials provided to draw, paint and create the trio’s performance of ‘The Air I Breath’ in action.
The evening will begin at 6:00pm with a short warm-up drawing class and by 7:00pm the performance will be in full swing, providing the soundtrack and subject matter for the night.
“Of course most of our gallery openings are of an evening, but when I was in Sydney earlier in the year I was able to attend an event at the Art Gallery of NSW combining talks, music and of course, art,” Gunnedah Conservatorium Director Rebecca Ryan said.
“I thought – what fun to have an extended night at our gallery in Gunnedah. I talked to Arts Gunnedah and Arts and Cultural Officer Lauren Mackley, who were enthusiastic about the idea. We’ve had Arcadia here in their quintet format and it’s great to be welcoming back the trio for this event.
“We will open with the short drawing workshop and we are encouraging members to pack their sketch book and draw during the performance.”
Arcadia Winds were formed in 2013 at the Australian National Academy of Music, and are fast becoming a fixture in the Australian musical scene, known for their energetic, joyful performances and advocacy for wind instruments.
All community members are welcome to join the free opportunity to experience a night of experimenting and creating with music and art. Light refreshments will be provided. For more information please contact Gunnedah Shire Council’s Arts and Cultural Officer Lauren Mackley on (02) 6740 2100.
