Greg Daly | The Pots I Kept
Ceramic exhibition, 40 years in the making
By Maryanne Jacques, Arts OutWest
Every visual artist has at least one piece of work they can’t bear to part with. For Cowra-based, internationally acclaimed ceramicist Greg Daly, it’s quite a large collection.
This body of very special ceramic pieces is on show until February 2 at Cowra Regional Art Gallery in the exhibition ‘40 Years In The Making -The Pots I Kept.
Greg Daly began working with clay at 13 years of age, eventually studying at RMIT where he honed his craft. He has played a key role in the unfolding history of the professional crafts movement in Australia, as both an artist and a teacher.
His career has been defined by willingness to experiment, and a fundamental understanding of the interplay between form, glaze, decoration and light. This diverse exhibition shows the development of Daly’s craft, from some of his earliest work, to his most recent.
His latest work has been inspired by the changing light around his home and studio. Returning to his use of lustre glazes, Daly creates vibrant colour and movement that shifts and changes as the viewer experiences the work from different angles.
The exhibition is now open.
