Fling Physical Theatre | Body & Environment
On Thursday 21 June the 2018 fLiNG Company will premiere their new major work Body and Environment.
This full-length work has been created by fLiNG Co Artistic Director Rob McCredie in collaboration with Gabrielle Rose, Gabriela Green Olea, David Hewitt, Holly Durant, Tim Newth, Gerry Corcoran, Anne Corcoran and the 2018 fLiNG Company – 11 young performers ranging in ages from 14-18yrs.
Body and Environment is set within a unique transforming set installation. A suspended web of 64 interconnected shirts is manipulated by the performers to create a series of spaces; from architectural structures to natural environments, public & private spaces, to the subconscious internal landscapes of the mind. The audience is invited on a journey through these physical and psychological spaces, reflecting on how the spaces we move through consciously and unconsciously affect our everyday lives and shape our imaginative worlds.
Internationally renowned composer and performer David Hewitt has created the musical score for Body and Environment. Hewitt has created an atmospheric, immersive and beautiful aural landscape. The work is brought further to life through the visually impressive lighting of Gerry Corcoran from GCLX.
Visiting artists Holly Durant (Melbourne) and Artistic Co Director of Tracks Tim Newth (Darwin) have made unique contributions to the realisation of this work. Both artists worked with Rob and the fLiNG Company during the 1.5 year creative development period.
This work is a distinctive new production for the fLiNG Company. These young performers have worked tirelessly to embody the nuanced choreography of McCredie, whilst developing their performance skills to work within intimate confines with their audience.
Every audience experience of Body and Environment is one of a kind and it will offer audiences a new flavour of ‘fLiNG’ work.
Body and Environment is running from Thursday 21 – Sunday 24 June at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre. There are two shows each night from Thur-Sat at 5:30pm and 7:30pm, and a 5:30pm show on Sunday.
