Recent changes in Federal arts funding arrangements have turned up the volume on the notion of what constitutes ‘excellence’ and raised many questions.
(Opera Q Artistic Director and board member of South East Arts, Lindy Hume address the question of the Provocation of Excellence at the 2014 Regional Arts Australia conference in Kalgoorlie.)
Seminars for Arts Professionals, SAMAG, is seeking answers to the implications of this
‘excellence’ debate for regional artists by travelling to the regions for this critical conversation at HotHouse Theatre on the border of NSW and Victoria at Albury Wodonga on Monday, 28 September.
This special seminar will include a panel of regional arts leaders to debate this issue. The speakers are Vic McEwan, Artistic Director, The CAD Factory; Karen Gardner, General Manager, Murray Arts and Lyn Wallis, Artistic Director, HotHouse Theatre. The discussion will be chaired by Dr David Williams, SAMAG Committee Member
The panel will discuss what might the implications of this ‘excellence’ debate be for regional artists and arts organisations? Can excellence be measured differently in regional Australia? How? Why? To what end? What opportunities might be emerging for regional artists and companies from this newly-framed discourse of excellence? What unique perspectives might regional artists offer the current debate about the constitution and measurement of artistic excellence?
