About the Residency and Public Programs
A pilot project between the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the BVRG, the inaugural Copyright Agency Cultural Fund Artist Residency offers the opportunity for visual artists to draw from the unique natural environment of the local Bega Valley region, whilst connecting with regional communities and expanding their practice.
Artist Julian Meagher’s residency will take place from Saturday 22nd April – Tuesday 9th May, at the Myer House set on Bithry Inlet in the pristine Mimosa Rocks National Park. The Myer House is one of several heritage listed, architecturally significant properties that were gifted by the Myer and Yencken family to the National Parks and Wildlife Service. The NPWS are keen to open access to the properties for significant events that contribute to the living culture and community of the region.
During Julian’s stay he will develop a body of work which will be exhibited at the Bega Valley Regional Gallery in February 2018 followed by the Olsen Gallery in Sydney. The residency will also provide a number of public program opportunities with the artist including workshops with BVRG partners TULGEEN Disability services and the NPWS indigenous rangers. For practicing artists in the South East region an exclusive master class will also be available where participants will have exposure to new methods of art making and the opportunity to draw on Meagher’s extensive knowledge and expertise.
