BIRRANG | Market Development Course

Building an effective market development plan can be the most important part of any artist’s endeavour to bring their work to the stage and to new audiences.

It is important to be able to manage how your work is presented within the public sphere in a way that enables the work to engage audiences broadly, while protecting the works’ cultural integrity. Likewise its critical to know how to develop the most effective networks and respond to the right opportunities.

The Birrang Market Development course focuses on assisting dance artists and emerging producers to build critical knowledge and skills.  Over 2 days, working closely with industry experts, this course will involve workshops and discussion forums as well as opportunities to test your pitching skills.

  • Venue: Bangarra Dance Theatre – The Bangarra Room, Pier 4, Hickson Rd, Walsh Bay.
  •  Date: Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 November 2013.
  •  The course is open to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance artists based in NSW. There is no course fee.
  • Regional artists are encouraged to enquire about travel subsidy. Full program information will be released soon.

The course is very much about finding the space to share ideas, experiences and aspirations around market development/touring/collaborations/residencies etc with peers from across NSW. The workshop assumes no previous market development knowledge or experience.

The Birrang Market Development workshop will take place over a weekend during the Corroboree Sydney Festival, a new national festival that celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in the heart of Sydney.
