Firstdraft Program Call-Out

Firstdraft are launching an inaugural First Nations Curators Program as part of a call-out for proposals for their Exhibition, Curators’, Writers’ and Public Programs for June 2019 – January 2020.

The new inaugural First Nations Curators Program supports an emerging Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander practitioner to present an exhibition. It is designed to provide early career curatorial practitioners with new skills, professional development and access to key industry networks.

The recipient will be offered a $1,500 curatorial fee, $1,000 for artists fees, support with exhibition development and a professional mentorship with an established First Nations curator. The Firstdraft board will work with the recipient to select a mentor of their choice.

Emerging and experimental practitioners are invited to apply for all Programs, and all opportunities are paid with free gallery space, artists fees and travel grants.

More information about the Programs can be found on the Firstdraft website.

Regional NSW artists may also be eligible for Firstdraft’s Regional Artists Fund, an initiative supported by Create NSW and designed to assist emerging and experimental artists residing and working in regional NSW to present their work at Firstdraft.

The fund is aimed at facilitating regional NSW artists to access a national dialogue and present their work away from home, and subsidises costs related to travel, accommodation and work transport. Funds may be allocated to eligible projects selected for the Exhibitions, Writers’ and Curators’ programs from the open call-outs. Note that funding does not cover material or production costs.

Submissions are open until 24 March 2019.
