Arts Northern Rivers | Entries Open for the 2019 Olive Cotton Award

Entries are now open for the prestigious Olive Cotton Award for photographic portraiture, held biennially at the Tweed Regional Gallery.

Professional and emerging photographers residing in Australia are encouraged to submit new portraits for the acquisitive Award, which is generously funded by the family of the late Olive Cotton, one of Australia’s leading 20th Century photographers.

The winner will receive $20,000 and have their work enter Tweed Regional Gallery’s collection of Australian portraits.

The Friends of Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre Inc. will also be sponsoring additional acquisitions through the Directors’ Choice awards to the value of $4,000.

This year’s Award will be judged by Marian Drew, an Adjunct Associate Professor at Queensland College of Art and one of Australia’s most influential and significant photo-media artists. With a practice spanning more than 20 years, Marian has held over 40 solo shows and numerous group shows in Australia and overseas.

Finalists will be on exhibition from 12 July – 22 September. During this time, visitors to the exhibition can also cast their own vote in the People’s Choice Award, valued at $250 and donated by the Friends of the Gallery.

Entries for the Olive Cotton Award close at midnight on Friday 3 May.
