Regional NSW Receives Accolades at Museums & Galleries of NSW IMAGinE Awards29.11.2018
Museums and galleries in regional NSW were in the spotlight at the recent Museum & Galleries of NSW IMAGinE Awards, with eight organisations being acknowledged for outstanding projects, programs and excellence in the sector.
Winners included Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (Winner for Exhibition Projects – Galleries: Small/Medium Organisations with 3-10 Paid Staff for The Unflinching Gaze: photo media and the male figure), Murray Art Museum Albury (Winner of Exhibition Projects – Galleries: Large Organisations with 11 or More Paid Staff for Material Sound), Lismore Regional Gallery and Lismore Quadrangle (Capacity Building, Capital & Sustainability Programs: Small/Medium Organisations with 3-10 Paid Staff) and Bank Art Museum Moree (Management Programs: Small/Medium Organisations with 3-10 Paid Staff for Yeladu! Kamilaroi Art Today artist residency.
A host of museums and galleries also walked away highly commended, with the New England Regional Art Museum receiving accolades for the Regional Arts Fund supported project Myall Creek and Beyond (Exhibition Projects – Galleries: Small/Museum Organisations with 3-10 Paid Staff), and Wagga Wagga Art Gallery for The Long Paddock (Exhibition Projects – Galleries: Small/Museum Organisations with 3-10 Paid Staff). In the Engagement Programs Large Organisations category, Murray Art Museum Albury also picked up a Highly Commended for Material Sound.
The inaugural ACHAA Award for Excellence by an Aboriginal Curator was also awarded to Bianca Beetson, for her curatorial role in the Regional Arts Fund project Myall Creek and beyond, shown at the New England Regional Art Museum earlier this year.
Regional Arts NSW congratulates all regional award recipients and commends their ongoing work in producing excellence in arts and culture in regional museums and galleries.
