Tweed Regional Gallery | Opportunity to Work with Acclaimed Artist, Laith McGregor, in Workshops

Leading Australian contemporary artist Laith McGregor will teach two drawing workshops at Tweed Regional Gallery in Murwillumbah in October.
Laith will be offering a workshop for high school students (years 9-12) during the school holidays followed by a workshop for adults two weeks later.
The artist is best known for his highly detailed, large-scale biro and pencil portraits and self portraits.
“The line as a symbolic gesture dates back to our primitive origins and is used to map, guide, express and converse. It’s central to drawing and is our focus for this workshop,” Laith said.
“Following a detailed study of the face, we’ll examine facial features and details such as contour, shape, form and expression. After some quick studies we’ll draw a detailed self-portrait and then deconstruct by erasing, graffiting, drawing over and expressing subconscious thought.
“Let’s be brave, let’s go beyond our idea of what a portrait can be,” he said.
Laith holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) and has exhibited throughout Australia and overseas.
