Four Winds Launches Inaugural Youth Music Festival03.09.2018
James Crabb, Four Winds Artistic Director, has this week officially launched the inaugural Four Winds Youth Music Festival which runs from Friday 16 November to Sunday 18 November 2018. This new annual festival is a celebration of young people’s music-making and a culmination of the energetic, inspirational and creative programs that Four Winds offers to young people in the region throughout the year.
There are up to 1000 young people taking part! The children from five primary schools – Bermagui, Narooma, Tilba Central, Tanja and Tathra – will come together for the Schools Showcase Performance on Friday 16 November in the Four Winds Sound Shell at Barragga Bay. Works from each school as well as large-scale en-masse percussion and vocal collaborations will be performed. The children will be performing alongside highly experienced professional musicians in large ensembles together with Western Sydney Youth Orchestra, The Australian Voices, Short Black Opera and other special guest artists. A new major work by leading vocal composer Lisa Young commissioned for this event will be one of the many highlights.
The Festival Concert, Sunday 18 November in the Four Winds Sound Shell and Windsong Pavilion, will see performances from the visiting ensembles alongside special performances by selected talented young musicians from the region. This performance opportunity is to help encourage, inspire and reward their commitment to music and offers our talented young musicians a chance to share the stage and collaborate with their mentors and tutors.
The Four Winds 2018 Youth Music Festival runs from Friday 16 November to Sunday 18 November. The Friday Schools Showcase Performance is entry by $10 donation. The Sunday Festival Concert is $30. 16yrs and under and Four Winds Access Pass holders free.
