Summer “Must-See” Exhibitions at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery15.01.2018
This summer the Cowra Regional Art Gallery is presenting two milestone exhibitions. The Calleen Collection: 40 Year Anniversary celebrating the foundation collection of the Gallery since it opened in 2000. A vibrant and diverse collection comprising the winners of the Calleen Art Award (including many well known artists from the region) established in 1977 by Cowra arts patron Mrs Patricia Fagan, OAM. Her generous legacy and vision have played a pivotal part in the development of this splendid collection of contemporary Australian art and the Calleen Art Award now a significant national acquisitive art prize worth $20,000. The exhibition continues to 4 February 2018.
Save the date for the opening of Mandy Martin – Homeground the next exhibition at the Gallery on Saturday 10 February 2018 at 2pm. This survey project focuses on work created by the renowned Australian artist Mandy Martin after she came to live near Mandurama in the Central West of NSW. The works chosen for this exhibition reflect 20 years in the region, and address Mandy Martin’s deep unease about the landscape in which she lives. Environmental issues relating to water security, the impact of the region’s coal-fired power stations and open cut mines are central concerns. Homeground also features guest artists Alexander Boynes and Trisha Carroll. The exhibition continues to 18 March 2018.
