The Gallery Learning Officer is responsible for fostering greater linkages with local schools and to promote the Gallery as an important learning environment. The role also identifies and develops opportunities for non-school groups to connect with the Gallery and its programs.

Responsibilities and duties:
- Build greater linkages between the Gallery and all levels of education providers
- Identify connections between NSW Syllabus and Gallery programs and articulate and promote to teachers and education providers
- Assist in the research and development of program materials, including education kits, guided tours and visitor guides
- Assist in the preparation of didactic panels and education kits for Gallery projects
- Research, develop and prepare, in consultation with other staff, education packages and participation strategies
- Communicate effectively with educators, schools and relevant organisations to build participation in Gallery programs
- Assist in researching, developing and implementing a range of interpretative programs for a broad range of audiences, including school students, the general public, the Lismore community, local arts community, artists and art enthusiasts. This includes contributing ideas to, and assisting in developing and promoting Gallery public programs
- Formulate strategies to develop relationships and programs to involve young people in the Gallery’s activities
- Be proactive in responding to the needs of community groups, teachers, schools and tertiary institutions
- Formulate and implement monitoring procedures for the evaluation of visitor services to ascertain the level of community satisfaction with Gallery programs

- Consultative manner and committed to a team-based approach of cooperation, with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Problem solving by applying standards, practices and procedures or operating instructions and involving analysis of information
Qualifications and experience:
Essential
- A relevant tertiary degree in Arts Education and/or Art History or Visual Arts, and relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training
- Experience in developing, coordinating and evaluating educational programs
- A high level of understanding of school-based education
- Knowledge of contemporary Australian visual arts and proven ability to research and interpret art works and exhibitions
- High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with internal and external clients, children and youth audiences, members of the public and Council officers
- Working with children check
Desirable
- Class C Driver’s Licence.
- Proven experience of working in a public gallery or museum
