Outback Arts | The 2017 Outback Archies are Now Open

Artists from Far Western NSW and surrounding areas are invited to enter the 2017 Outback Archies! An initiative of Outback Arts, the regional arts organisation for the far west, the Outback Archies is an annual art prize and exhibition now in its seventh year. This popular exhibition and art prize is all about celebrating the colour, creativity and spirit of our communities across the Far West.
2017 has seen some new and exciting changes to the Archies such as new categories and bigger prizes involving exhibition and mentoring opportunities. The eligible shire areas have also been extended to further surrounding districts offering more emerging regional artists the opportunity to be involved in such a high profile event.
Entries are open to works in all media including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and ceramics.
Prizes will be awarded in the categories of Open (including painting, drawing, print-making and etching), Photography, Sculpture (including glass art and wood and metalwork), and the new addition of a Ceramics category. Prizes are also awarded to the most Outstanding Indigenous Artist as well as a prize for People’s Choice and an Overall 2017 Winner.

Executive Director for Outback Arts, Jamie-Lea Trindall, says that the art prize has evolved to suit the growing needs of the regions artists. “It’s a unique example of how strong the arts community is in rural NSW. The Archies is about providing that space and support to showcase the talented artists in our region and I think its reputation is reflected in the level of support received from entrants, sponsors and audience alike.”
The Outback Archies exhibition is to be held in Coonamble at the Outback Arts Gallery from 25th September to 27th October. Applications are open now until Thursday 31st August. Entry forms are available from, via download on the top left of this page, on request at or 02 6822 2484.
