New Chair Appointed for Arts Northern Rivers

Arts Northern Rivers has announced the election of Cr. Elly Bird as the new Chair of the Board.

The Board unanimously elected the Lismore Council representative who brings a strong background in arts and cultural development and has been involved with directing large scale arts events.

Cr. Bird said, “Our region has one of the largest arts sectors outside of the cities and the arts are an essential part of our regional identity. Arts Northern Rivers is a fantastic organisation doing important arts and cultural work and I am honoured and excited to be the new Chair. I look forward to working with the board and with staff to continue to deliver a first class program of creative industry support, indigenous arts development, community arts and cultural development.”

After leading the organisation as Chair for two years Ms Jude McBean, Grafton Regional Gallery Director stepped down from the position welcoming the appointment of Cr Elly Beck to the position saying she saw this as a great opportunity for new energy and fresh eyes to lead this dynamic organisation.

The Board moved a vote of thanks for Jude’s strong stewardship over the last two years.

Arts Northern Rivers CEO Peter Wood said, “I would like to express my sincere thanks to Jude for the contribution she has made and will continue to make to the Board. We are delighted that we can continue to access her considerable knowledge of the region as well as her expertise and talents for the organisation.

We look forward to continuing to work with Ms McBean and Cr. Bird as Chair, in what will be a very exciting and busy year for the organization.”
