Four Winds Latin Spirit Coming to Bermagui27.03.2017
Latin Spirit is coming to Bermagui, a celebration of the sounds of flamenco and tango is the brainchild of Four Winds Artistic Director, James Crabb. It will take place across the Easter weekend in what the Region can proudly describe as the most idyllic festival space in Australia.
The Festival features an ensemble James Crabb has put together just for Latin Spirit: ‘TANGO JAM 2’. This exceptional group of musicians includes former Brodsky Quartet member and Sydney Symphony violinist Andrew Haveron, celebrated guitarist Aleksandr Tsiboulski, Melbourne pianist, conductor and composer Stefan Cassomenos, multifaceted Phil Stack on Double Bass and James Crabb on classical accordion. Tango Jam 2 performs on Saturday 15 April at the Windsong Pavilion (7pm $55).
Headlining an exciting Sunday program at the Sound Shell is a performance by one of Australia’s finest baritones, Jose Carbo. Also performing on Sunday are Rasa Duende, a collaboration between internationally acclaimed musicians Bobby Singh (tabla), Adrian McNeil (sarod) and Damian Wright (flamenco Guitar). Together they explore the rich creative potential of the melodic, rhythmic and aesthetic meeting points between Hindustani and Flamenco music. Bandaluzia is an acclaimed modern flamenco music and dance ensemble known for explosive displays of dazzling musicianship and virtuosity. They are led by Australian guitarist Damian Wright, and features percussionist Ben Hauptmann, guitarist James Hauptmann and one of Australia’s most outstanding exponents of flamenco dancing, Jessica Statham. Doors for the Sound Shell concert open at noon (1-5pm $85-$120).
The fiesta taking place in the evening of Sunday 16 April at the Bermagui Community Centre will help us unleash our inner Latin dancing the night away with International DJs, Mario Gordon (Panama) and Dwight “Chocolate” Escobar (Venezuela). It starts with Latin dance workshops in flamenco, tango and other popular rhythms like Salsa and Bachata included in the ticket price. Bega based Veronica Valderrama from Far South Flamenco will be performing a solo work and there will also be a ‘tango moment” by local tango enthusiasts Robert Tacheciand Neva Castellarin (6pm- till late $25).
This musical feast will be complemented by authentic flavours from across Latin America and Spain. Expect the culinary offer to match the exquisite musical menu with paella, empanadas and plenty of sangria.
