New England Regional Art Museum | International Students Sign up for Australian Arts and Culture

The New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) is launching a special program which aims to connect UNE international students with the local community through a series of arts and cultural activities.

The NERAM Student Ambassadors program was launched last week during the University of New England’s Orientation Week program and will commence with a special ‘BIG arty Barbie’ event at NERAM on Saturday 11 March 2017.

“We believe that international students make a significant contribution to the diversity of our region and that the whole of the New England region benefits economically and culturally from their presence here,” said Robert Heather, Art Museum Director. “We would like to see international students enjoying their time here, learning more about Australian art and culture and getting involved in the local community through the activities of NERAM and our partners.”

“We want to make sure that the experience of studying in Armidale extends beyond the lecture theatre and into the wider community and this unique program will create opportunities for international students to meet local residents, artists and other students in a series of fun and informal events at NERAM and around the wider region.”
“This program will add value to experience of living and studying in Armidale and help create positive lasting memories from their time in Australia for students from around the world.”

The NERAM Student Ambassador program has received funding from Museums & Galleries of New South Wales through their Audience Development Fund which aims to support galleries to develop and trial new models for engaging audiences and is made possible by NERAM’s partnership with UNE International.

“UNE International is pleased to be working constructively with NERAM on a range of projects for international students,” said Ben Roberts, Events and Community Engagement Officer. “The projects will give students a valuable chance to interact with the local community and to learn more about Australian arts and culture.”

International Students at UNE are invited to sign up for the program online to receive bulletins and invitations to special events at NERAM including exhibitions, workshops, art classes and tours as well as partnership activities with other local cultural organisations such as the Armidale and Region Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place.
