Artist Call Out | Threads of Our Communities16.02.2016
This story was first published in the West Darling Arts E-Newsletter (February 2016).
West Darling Arts will partner with South West Arts in a joint project titled Threads of our Communities. This venture will showcase the talent of fibre artists in both regions. The project is a collaboration with eight local Councils and numerous community groups and organisations including CWA groups, knitting and quilting groups and fibre artists.
Threads of our Communities captures the enormous existing talent with regard to fibre artists within our regions, highlighting the innate connection between land and product right from farming through to the finished artwork. Threads of our Communities celebrates the key fibre production sectors that have underpinned our regional economy through creative fibre artworks.
This innovative project will connect artists with businesses and provide a digital platform for promoting the regions on a national and international stage but most importantly will provide an opportunity for regional artists to participate in the International Annual Excellence in Fibres Exhibition.
Category winners are presented to curators and directors of over 100+ international museums and galleries that feature fibre work and a select group of fibre and fine craft collectors.
We are asking local businesses to participate in this project by promoting fibre artist, through in store discounts with the use of coupons for participating fibre artists. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated and go towards the promotion of artists and the contributing businesses supporting the project.
Project Sponsors will receive:
