Artists living in the Outback Arts and Orana Arts regions covering the shires of Warren, Walgett, Cobar, Bourke, Coonamble, Dubbo, Gilgandra, Narromine,Warrumbungle and Mid-Western Region are invited to enter the Outback Archies.

Now in its 5th year, Outback Archies has a prize pool of $5,000. Sponsors are Coonamble Shire Council, Campbelltown City Council and New Gold Peak Gold Mines. Campbelltown is Coonamble’s sister city.

The theme for this year’s competition is Legends and Landscapes, however, the theme is open to individual interpretation.

Entries can include, but are not limited to, photography, painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture.

The competition will have first and second prizes as well as People’s Choice and Most Outstanding Indigenous Artist awards.

Outback Arts Regional Development Officer, Jamie-Lea Hodges said the competition is a great opportunity for regional artists to have their artwork toured across the region.

‘The Outback Archies is an excellent platform for regional artists. The winning entries every year continue to showcase the amazing artistic talent in the communities,’ Jamie-Lea said.

‘Many of the winning works are from emerging artists and through their achievements their profile and confidence is growing,’ she said.

The exhibition will be held in Coonamble at the Outback Arts Gallery from 7 September to 2 October before a planned tour of the region throughout the rest of the year.
