Vale Jennifer Shearing (1970-2015)03.02.2015
The staff and board of Regional Arts NSW (RANSW) join with others in the regional network, especially the staff and board of Orana Arts in mourning the loss of former Orana Arts Chair and RANSW Director, Jen Shearing. She lost a two year battle with cancer and passed away in Dubbo on 5 January.
Jen’s contribution to arts and cultural development was significant. She was a passionate supporter of the arts in her region. She brought her considerable skills to both her board roles and was instrumental in the growth and development of Orana Arts to the position it now holds in the community.
She was the Orana Arts alternate director of the board of RANSW from 2006 and was appointed as director in 2008. She played a critical role during a period that RANSW was undergoing major governance reform providing a calm and rational voice to enable change to take place. She continued to contribute by serving on the RANSW Advisory Council from 2009.
Jen was not just an able administrator, she was an active and joyous participant in the arts as an actor and a singer performing over many years with the Dubbo Theatre Company, the Wesley Players and the Harmony Singers. She lit up the world with her wonderful generous smile and we are all richer for having known her.
