Regional Theatre Projects Funding Open03.12.2014
Applications for Regional Theatre Projects funding have opened. The funding supports activities that increase the development of, and access to, regionally produced theatre experiences in NSW. It aims to build the capacity of regional organisations and artists to produce and present professional theatre, develop new audiences, and develop the skills of emerging theatre makers in regional areas.
Funding can be used for a variety of projects that support professional theatre practice in regional NSW.
Regional arts organisations, partnerships and groups are eligible to apply.
Orana Arts received project funding of $60,000 for Staging Stories: a long term commitment to developing theatre practice with regional Aboriginal artists, and to new Australian Aboriginal contemporary theatre that is created within regional NSW, a regional aboriginal theatre collective. The project is a partnership between Orana Arts, Fire Station Arts Centre, Performing Lines, Playwriting Australia, Eora College for Aboriginal Stories and Moogahlin Performing Arts. The first workshops for the project were held on November 29 and 30.
Also funded through the program was the Outback Theatre for Young People, Illuminate – a celebratory theatre project designed to bring young people together from the isolated townships of the Wakool Shire of NSW. This project worked with participants to create art that reflected strengths, and encouraged the resilience, of the communities they belong to.
Funding of up to $60,000 is available for projects delivered within one year, or up to $75,000 for projects delivered over two years.
The closing date for applications is midnight Monday, 16 February 2015.
